Dubai Municipality to rent open space near offices


Dubai: Individuals and organisations can now put up kiosks or stalls in vacant spaces near customer service centres of the Dubai Municipality across the emirate.
An administrative resolution to this effect was passed by the civic body, Hussain Nasser Lootah, director-general of Dubai Municipality, announced.
Daily rate
The municipality has decided to rent such vacant spaces at a daily rate of Dh200 per square metre.
The new resolution comes in accordance with the provisions under the 1997 Law No.6 and its amendments regarding contracts of government departments in Dubai. The law details the type, purpose, place, duration, and payments of contracts for making use of vacant places.
No change in the purpose, location or tenure of the business will be entertained once the contract is made.
Those who take these spaces on rent would be required to abide by other laws and regulations of the municipality as well and they will be liable for any damage to the place or disruption of municipality services as a result of their occupation of such open spaces.
